RC Transmitter (FLX)/Receiver (PLR) 27.255 mc. One of many items received from an uncle that were never used by me; as a result, I have no idea if these items still work and make no guarantee to that end.

So, this is an " as is " listing. Please review the photos carefully--they really tell what story can be told here. These are with the original boxes and in perfect condition... The boxes show their age, but are also in good condition.

Part of my display collection. Never tested, all internals clean and intact. Condition of both the transmitter and receiver.

The transmitter case isn't perfect (as one might expect from a nearly 70 year old item), but it's rather good condition: there aren't any dents that I can find, but there is a mark near the bottom of the front that looks as though it may have resulted from contact with something heavy enough to crack the clear-coat a bit, but not heavy enough to dent the case (if that makes sense). There's also a bit of wear at the corners and on the sides, but nothing too serious (in my opinion). The black lettering on the front is easily readable. The left filament switch operates well, snapping into either the up or down position. The right switch (labeled operate switch) is spring loaded--presumably it's meant to be held in the on position with the thumb, as the spring will return it to the down position.

Both switches still have their grooved grips. " It is recommended that one use a "standard 36" length of 1/8" piano or landing gear wire--readily available "for approximately 25 [cents]" if you can see your way back to 1953. It's also suggested that any different length will reduce efficiency. The instructions also indicate that there is a red plastic ball packed inside the transmitter case to be used on the end of the antenna as a protector.

I have not opened the transmitter to confirm that the ball is present, nor do I want/intend to. The glass dome located above the "G" in Tuning is unbroken.

The rubber grommet (through which the antenna goes) is in good shape externally. The instructions are, naturally, folded and they do show some aging, but they are readable. The box, as you might expect, does show its years--wearing at the edges and the corners, some old tape, stains, etc.

But it holds its shape well, and the halves fit together without issue. Most importantly, perhaps, the GE tube is unbroken. I think the pictures will help most with this item, please review the four images (I'll take more as requested, if necessary). The box only contained this receiver--there was no protective packing material or instructions; when this item ships, I will add an appropriate amount of material to ensure that the receiver does not move around inside its box, and to ensure that it arrives (one hopes) in the condition indicated in the photos.

The box itself, like the box for the transmitter, shows its age: wear at the corners and edges, discoloration, old tape, etc. It holds its shape well, though, and both halves do still fit together properly.

Overall, regardless of whether it still works, I think it will make a fine addition to a displayed collection. The item "VTG 1953 Citizen-Ship Radio Corp.
