This particular unit dates to 1956 and was standard US combat field equipment during the Cold War era and also in the earlier stages of the Vietnam conflict, (some were also captured and put to use by the Vietcong and NVA until the end of the conflict). This field radio is complete with the backpack and pouch for the included handset and the two threaded antenna mast adapters.

As far as I can determine it is the complete unit lacking only the special battery and the antenna masts. I obtained this radio back in the late 1970s from a free admission open air military.

That was located just off Illinois Interstate 294 not far from the Illinois Wisconsin border. The museum featured old aircraft , tanks. Etc from WW2 up to Vietnam including Hueys and other Vietnam era equipment.

The small office had some surplus for sale and this PRC-10 was one of the items. The radio was hanging on the wall right near me and caught my eye. I asked the owner if it worked and he said yes, but he no longer had the special batteries available.

At that time in 1978 it was cheaper than a CB radio or Walkie talkie and I had plans to play around with it. In any case I never located a battery and lost interest. Its been sitting in a box at home since 1979. As can be seen in the pictures the exterior cosmetics show the expected field use wear with some chips in the paint and the battery box looks like it got a brush overcoat of of a. Shade of the Olive Drab. The front face of the radio has some fine. Speckles of what looks like white paint "overspray" on some areas of the Olive Drab but it should probably come off with a little cleaner wax or other method... Or leave it as is, its not a. Other than these minor cosmetic issues it is in overall very decent shape as is the handset and all the canvas, straps buckles etc Everything looks to be in serviceable condition and the exposed chassis reveals very clean electronics. While the museum owner I bought it from said it worked I have never powered it up so no guarantee. However judging by the condition of the internals it may be fine as is if you can locate or fabricate a power source.
